Moving Image Research Lab (MIRL)

The Moving Image Research Laboratory (MIRL) is a research laboratory for the investigation of relations between the development in moving image technologies, and transformations in modernity’s understanding of the body, its movements and its perceptions.

To explore the historical intersections between moving image media and changing bodily imaginaries, the MIRL is equipped with:
  • moving image analysis lab for the comparative analysis of moving images in several media formats;
  • data processing lab for the digitization of print and visual materials from the researchers’ specific domains;
  • and a 16mm film collection with approximately 500 titles ranging from art house and experimental to various “orphan” films.
